FIHTA Typhoid Update 3

Tuesday, 9 March. Please find attached a comprehensive update received last from the Ministry of Health on the status of the current typhoid outbreak.
The total number is now 112 cases with 60 patients recovered and no deaths. This release has valuable advise and should be made available to staff members. Chapter Chairs are asked to relay these to their members. Vinaka.

H1N1 vaccine

Thursday, 4 March. ELEVEN Pacific countries including Fiji will benefit from the Pandemic H1N1 vaccine provided by the World Health Organisation. It will be used to immunise people. Pandemic H1N1 has spread around the world since it was detected in April last year. To date it has been attributed with at least 16,226 deaths globally. Pregnant women and people with underlying medical conditions are at highest risk of developing severe illness and even dying after contracting Pandemic H1N1. (Source: The Fiji Times). Vinaka.
